Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is an evaluation and environmental certification system for buildings promoted by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED evaluates the environmental performance of the entire building and its life cycle, providing a definition parameter of a green building according to six categories: local sustainability, water use, energy efficiency, atmosphere and air quality, materials and inovation, and project process. Buildings can be certified with silver, gold or platinum according to its score reached in a scale of credits from the project characteristics to the building’s performance.
